Description Description Lavender ‘Twickel Purple’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘Twickel Purple’) is a fragrant, evergreen shrub up to 75cm in height and width with narrow grey-green leaves up to 5.5cm long with striking, bright purple flowers on spikes in late summer. To prolong the flowering period with a second flush, dead head the flowers before they turn. Lavender ‘Twickel Purple’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘Twickel Purple’) is an angustifolia (English Lavender) variety. Angustifolia means narrow leafed, this type of lavender, despite the misleading common name originate from the Mediterranean and the mountains of northern Spain. It is hardy throughout most of the UK, having a RHS hardiness rating of H5 meaning it can tolerate temperatures down to -10 to -15C. Lavender should be positioned in full sun in soil with good drainage. Lavender is widely misunderstood in many ways. Many people think it hates water.
