Description Description Lavender ‘Edelweiss’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Edelweiss’) has light green foliage and is a fragrant, evergreen shrub growing up to 50cm in height and width. ‘Edelweiss’ has striking, pure white flowers often as early as July, whilst an eye catching specimen by itself, it’s flowers are capable of suppling a good backdrop for contrast and is perfect for many different situations including: dwarf hedging; borders towards the front and back; Mediterranean style gardens; cottage and informal gardens; courtyard gardens and patios and container plants. Lavender is a plant with many misconceptions. Subject to popular belief, lavender loves water and thrives of having lots of it. However, it has to be in a place which is free draining as it cannot tolerate sitting in it. To help with this, you can work the soil around it by putting compost in the area surrounding the plant and plant it proud as this will help with the drainage. Lavender can also not tolerate being in shade and will quickly go down hill if that is the case. Lavender ‘Edelweiss’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Edelweiss’) is excellent for wildlife, both rich in nectar, it also boasts more flowers than the typical Lavender, making it, in many people’s eyes superior to the Lavender ‘Alba’, depending on what you are looking for. Lavender ‘Edelweiss’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Edelweiss’) falls under the category of an intermedia lavender (Dutch Lavender). It comes from crossing a broad leafed (Latifolia) and narrow leafed (Angustifolia or English) lavender. They are slightly hardier than the English (Angustifolia) varieties and have an RHS Hardiness rating of H5 meaning it can tolerate temperatures down to -15 to -10C and is hardy through most parts of the UK. However, try and put it in a sheltered position as it does not like being exposed to cold winds. We have large Lavender ‘Edelweiss’ (Lavandula intermedia ‘Edelweiss’) available in a 10L pots. Once established these are fairly drought resistant. This size is very rarely available to the public.
