Photinia ‘Red Select’ 45-60cm 5 litre

$25.55 $33.22
Description Description Photinia ‘Red Select’ is compact, versatile and dense natural variant of Photinia ‘Red Robin’. Photinia ‘Red Select’’s new growth is dark red, almost purple until it matures into a dark green later on in the year. This red growth is darker than the Photinia ‘Red Robin’’s and Photinia ‘Carre Rouge’‘s new growth and the leaves are slightly wider. Interestingly enough, this evergreen shrub can have up to three growth spurts or flushes a year, depending on the conditions. Between May and June it has creamy white flowers with 5 petals this can be followed by fruit though this is very rare. Photinia ‘Red Select’ like Photinia ‘Red Robin’ and Photinia ‘Carre Rouge’ can survive in most soils, whether it be: clay, sand or loam providing it is free draining. It prefers neutral to acidic but will survive in mild alkaline soils. Photinia thrives in full sun and can often appear leggy or more sparse in denser shade. The RHS suggest that Photinia can survive in  exposed positions, however from experience I would suggest a more sheltered sight. Photinia ‘Red Select’ has a RHS hardiness rating of H5 meaning it can survive temperatures down to -10 to -15. It is suitable to cottage and informal gardens and is generally low maintenance and is perfectly suited to hedging and screening. As a shrub it is in pruning group 1, this means throughout the year you can remove crossing, dead or unwanted branches though it generally requires little maintenance. Though as a hedge, trim after flowering in late spring to early to mid spring. Photinia ‘Red Select’ is not poisonous to domestic animals however it can cause issues in grading animals such as horses and cattle.   Growth Rate   Up to 60cm anually in prime conditions   Max height/width   Height 2.5m Width 2.5m   Pruning   As a shrub it is in pruning group 1, this means throughout the year you can remove crossing, dead or unwanted branches though it generally requires little maintenance.
