Description Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Frill Ride’ is a bold bigleaf hydrangea offering a dynamic twist with rich dark pink almost red blooms in alkaline soils and purple to deep blue flowers in acidic soils. The petals are very rippled and frilly offering an interesting texture. Also, so pronounced are the quantity and size of the blooms that you can barely see the leaves beneath. A great compact plant to just 2-3 feet tall and wide perfect for small spaces and containers. Trimming off faded flowers will encourage more flowers. Flower buds for the following year form in late summer to fall so no pruning after August! But at this compact size you’ll really never have to prune.
