Description Allium validum is the beautiful Pacific onion native from BC to California. It is also commonly referred to as swamp onion due to its preference for moist and wet habitats. The plants grow from edible bulbs with long, strap-like green to blue-green foliage topped in late spring or early summer with clusters of lavender-pink heads of small flowers on stems to three feet tall. Black seeds follow flowering. This bulb can be used as a flavouring for soups and stews although it is somewhat fibrous. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked and the flowers can be used as a raw garnish on salads. Can also be used as an insect and mole repellent. Ideal in a boggy sunny location in the garden. Pollinator attractor. Deer resistant. Photo: Wikipedia.
