Description Allium acuminatum is commonly known as a taper-tip or hook onion. It is found from BC south to California. The scapes can reach up to 16 inches tall with open umbels of pink-purple bell-shaped blooms with yellow anthers. The bulb produces two to three grooved leaves which tend to wither prior to blooming. This onion was eaten by First Peoples in southern British Columbia and was harvested in early spring or late fall. Both the bulb and the flower stalk are edible with caution to consume in small amounts only due to sulfides. May be used as domestic onions either raw, boiled, pickled or for seasoning. Attracts pollinators. Deer resistant.
