2nd Hand Apple Mac guide (Updated 24th May 2008)
Avoid ebay when purchasing a 2nd hand apple computer, I feel gumtree.com is by far the best place within the UK to purchase a 2nd hand apple computer.
Please note the below guide is my own personal views on the current prices
of 2nd hand apple mac computers. If you need help on picking the right apple mac for yourself please drop me an email: benn@macrevitalise.co.uk
G4 Powermac towers
Models: M7631 & M7826, SAWTOOTH or AGP Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet,
Digital Audio, Quicksilver, Quicksilver 2002, Mirror Drive Doors,
Mirror Drive Doors FW 800.
The Power Mac G4 was a major step for Apple to a very reliable and stable machine for professional audio, video and graphics users. So many different models were built so some confusion comes up from time to time on the specs of these machines.
Built from August 1999 to June 2004 the machines vary greatly.
Currently the low end range machines can be picked up pretty cheap these days but prices to vary from various online sites that are selling these G4 machines so it worth shopping around to check prices.
Currently Price guide for the low end G4 towers is around £50 to £100
This would be the machines with anything from 350mhz to 500mhz processor machines.
The slightly higher speced dual processor machines are currently selling for around £100 to £200 depending on the processor speeds and how much ram it has. Please note its always worth checking the size of hard drives too as they do vary from each spec of G4 tower.
Top of the range would be the Mirror doored versions of the G4 towers, prices seem to vary on these currently I've seen them as cheap as £200 and up to £400. Again always check amount of ram and how big the hard drives the machines have installed as it always changes the prices they usually sell for. The dual 1.25 & dual 1.42 Ghz are the ones to look out for and are seriously upgradable.
Imac G5 (White flatscreen version)

I'm not a fan of this Imac lots of problems please note:
Hard drive failures
Logic board problems affecting screens
Power Supply issues
Overheating & shutting down issues
Noise Fan problems
Prices vary on the 17" imacs but check model version etc & specs,
but start from as little as £300 up to £550 which I feel is a bit on the steep side.
Again on the 20" imacs prices vary from £600 to £750, don't even consider ebay.
The 24" imacs are selling between £700 to £900 range, out of the all imac G5's this would be the one to go for!
